PURE Radios use Much Less Energy than a Low Energy Light Bulb
London, UK 26th May 2009: PURE, the world's leading DAB digital radio manufacturer today announces that its 'Energy Saving Recommended' radios use less energy than an energy saving light bulb.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, "running four PURE Energy Saving Recommended radios will use less electricity than one low energy light bulb on for the same time".*
Colin Crawford, PURE's director of marketing says: "Consumers are increasingly looking for more eco-friendly products, and telling us that power consumption matters to them. The message that you can run four of our radios for less energy than a single low-energy light bulb is a very direct way to highlight just how successful we've been in reducing digital radio power consumption over the past seven years."
PURE will promote this message in its 'Less than a Light Bulb' campaign in consumer and trade press as well as at point of sale during the summer months to drive awareness of its EST recommended radios.
Says Adrian Arnold, Energy Saving Trust's Energy Doctor: "An Energy Saving Trust accredited digital radio is the most efficient way to listen to DAB digital radio and we would encourage anyone enjoying the fantastic content that digital radio provides to move across to one of these radios which uses less electricity and is better for the environment** PURE's 'Less than a Light Bulb' campaign is a great way to put this message across quickly and clearly".
PURE has received ten Energy Saving Recommended accreditations for its radios including Move; EVOKE-1S; Siesta; Chronos II; TEMPUS-1S; ONE Mini; ONE Classic; ONE Elite; EVOKE Mio and EVOKE-2S.
Products endorsed by the scheme have to satisfy an Independent Endorsement Panel of experts, and have to meet strict energy efficiency criteria which means they are not only better for the environment but are also cheaper to run. All PURE radios endorsed by Energy Saving Trust will feature the distinctive blue Energy Saving Recommended logo on their packaging and promotional material.
All ten radios endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust are part of EcoPlus™, PURE's green initiative as is PURE's entire product range. EcoPlus™ stands for reduced power consumption, packaging materials from recycled and sustainable sources and components selected to minimise their environmental impact.
* A PURE Energy Saving Trust accredited DAB radio consumes less than 3.5W of electricity in 'on' mode - which with three hours of listening a day (and turned off the rest of the time) would cost 60p a year on the average energy tariff; a typical low energy bulb consumes around 13-18W, which would cost £2.10 - £2.90 a year to run for the same number of hours a day on same the average energy tariff. A typical 13-18W energy saving light bulb is equivalent to a 60W incandescent ('traditional') bulb. 'Average' energy tariff is a price of 13.95p/kWh of electricity (as at Sept 2008).
** According to the Energy Saving Trust an Energy Saving Recommended accredited PURE digital radio uses, on average, around 5 times less energy than listening to the radio through a laptop, 20 times less energy than listening through a desktop computer and 40 times less energy than listening to the radio through a TV with a Freeview set-top box. This assumes that the computer and TV are used solely for listening to the radio and would not have been in use otherwise.
EcoPlus is a statement of PURE's ongoing commitment to the environment and its future. All EcoPlus products are designed and manufactured to minimise their environmental impact, with:
- Reduced power consumption in operation and standby
- The use of packaging materials from recycled and sustainable sources
- The smallest possible packaging
- Components selected to minimise environmental impact
