For the first time, Imagination Technologies is pleased to present two one-day mobile graphics workshops for our “Introduction to Mobile Graphics” university module.

Get hands-on with PowerVR mobile graphics!

These workshops are aimed at educators – specifically those working at universities teaching game development or computer science. The workshops present a course intended to introduce real-time rendering on mobile devices to students with no prior experience with 3D graphics programming. On completing the module, students will have a good understanding of fundamental 3D rendering techniques, the OpenGL ES API, shader programming, industry standard development tools and optimizing 3D graphics applications for low-power mobile devices.

The workshops provide module materials that are designed to fit practical and exam led teaching structures – lecture slides, practical exercises and example exam questions.

The Agenda

Whichever day you choose to attend, both mobile graphics workshops will cover the same topics and be structured in the same manner:

  • Welcome & Introduction to the Imagination University Programme (“IUP”),
  • Lecture: Basics of the PowerVR Framework, and simple Object Orientated Design,
  • Lab: PowerVR Framework,
  • Lecture: OpenGL ES 2.0 basics,
  • Lab: Using PVRTrace to identify issues,
  • Wrap-up / Q&A, and
  • A visit to Imagination’s Demo Room to see the latest technologies will also be included.

After your day of training you will have a good understanding of the specific requirements of mobile graphics and an appreciation of how these teaching materials could be integrated into your computer graphics curriculum.

All delegates will be given access to the lecture slides and course notes, programming exercises and solutions, as well as example exam questions and answers.

Book Your Place

These workshops (scheduled for 23rd and 24th September, 2015) are free of charge, and intended for academic faculty members – with a priority for those involved directly in teaching. Places are limited and demand will be high, so apply for your place quickly!

Be Prepared!

If you wish to attend the workshop, you are advised to bring along a laptop (ideally running Windows) to take part in the hands-on exercises. Installing our PowerVR SDK beforehand will also save time on the day.

Robert Owen

Robert Owen

Robert Owen created and directed three of the world’s leading industry to university programmes: for TI, Imagination/MIPS and RS Components. In parallel, he created and ran a successful media business. In 2019 he returned to Imagination to revive and reposition their University Programme, which is now focused on the "silicon engines" of GPUs (graphics processing units) and NNAs (neural network accelerators). The application of these engines in graphics at all levels, from TV displays to 3D gaming, and to artificial intelligence at-the-edge in portable low-power devices, is driving the need for new education initiatives. These projects will assist teachers of the next generation of engineers and programmers, to understand how to solve real-world problems with these exciting technologies. With 25 years of experience in the field of industry-to-academia collaboration, Robert has unique insight into this market and a formidable network of relationships around the world.
