OpenRL Profiler

Imagination is at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver this week showing the latest in PowerVR and Caustic ray tracing technologies. One of the high points on the booth (number 129 if you’re thinking of visiting) is the OpenRL Profiler — the industry’s first interactive ray debugging tool.  When creating applications which use ray tracing, many millions of rays are bouncing through a 3D scene to create the final image.

By allowing developers to attach to any running OpenRL application, freeze time and isolate the path taken by the rays contributing to a specific pixel, image quality and application performance can be quickly optimised eliminating wasted time and guess work.

Check out Imagination’s ray tracing technology at SIGGRAPH 2011 here. And while you’re at it why not check out the latest on PowerVR and the beautiful GLBenchmark 2.5 (also being demo’d at SIGGRAPH) here.

CES 2020: The robots are coming…

Coming away from CES this year one thought filled my head: the robots are coming! Having walked around the floor of this enormous show I saw enough to convince me that the 1950s vision of the robot in your house ready to do the chores isn’t quite as far-fetched as it once was. That’s not to say we’ll have C3PO or Kryten available to order next year of course; things will start a little smaller and rounder.
