This paper describes the MIPS remote processor driver for the Linux kernel and how it provides the framework for a system to flexibly implement a mix of real-time and Linux based processes on a single MIPS based platform. It may be particularly beneficial to systems where the real time application requirements or general data processing and networking requirements are periodic, although it is equally beneficial for systems with a continuous mix of real-time and Linux based operations
