Imagination Technologies the leader in mobile and embedded graphics technologies is showing the latest phones utilising PowerVR MBX, the leading mobile 3D graphics solution, at ARM Developers’ Conference 2006 from October 3rd 5th.

PowerVR MBX has a highly efficient and low-bandwidth architecture which has won its place as the de facto standard for mobile graphics, having shipped in well over 20 million phones so far.

Processors using ARM cores and PowerVR MBX include Texas Instruments OMAP 2, Freescale i.MX31, Intel 2700G, Samsung S3C2460, Philips PNX4008 and upcoming chips from Centrality and Sunplus.

Handsets on show at ARM Developers’ Conference will include Nokia’s N93 smartphone, Sony Ericsson’s W950, M600 and P990, Helio’s Hero and selected Japanese handsets from manufacturers including NEC, Panasonic, Sharp and Sony Ericsson. Over 30 handsets already use Imagination Technologies’ IP, with many more in advanced development..

PowerVR MBX is a unique graphics acceleration technology that delivers console-level 3D graphics on mobile phones and embedded devices via full support for leading APIs like OpenGL ES 1.x, OpenVG and Direct3D Mobile and OS including Symbian. PowerVR SGX extends support to OpenGL ES 2.0, or equivalent.

PowerVR MBX, and the shader based PowerVR SGX, are only available for licensing directly from Imagination Technologies.

Says Peter McGuinness, Imagination Technologies’ director of business development (USA): “”;PowerVR MBX has been the clear choice of both chip and handset manufacturers for mobile 3D. This powerful and mature IP is usable with a range of ARM cores, or other processor technologies, and is available for licensing by a wide variety of customers, from fabless semis and consumer electronics companies to the top ten semiconductor companies.””;

All Imagination’s IP is available as RTL for integration by licensees. Imagination Technologies’ IMGworks is a full RTL to GDSII SoC design service capable of integrating Imagination Technologies’ IP cores, partner IP, 3rd party IP and custom RTL design to provide leading edge platform solutions.
