Imagination Technologies Shows PowerVR® MBX Mobile Graphics Acceleration On TI OMAP™ 2 Platform at the Symbian™ Smartphone Show 2006

Imagination Technologies a leader in System on Chip Intellectual Property will be demonstrating advanced technology for mobile 3D graphics on the Texas Instruments stand #40 at the Symbian Smartphone Show 2006.

Imagination Technologies groundbreaking graphics technology, PowerVR is a highly efficient and low-bandwidth solution, based on a unique tile-based deferred rendering architecture that is ideally suited to power and memory constrained mobile platforms, which has won its place as the de facto standard for mobile graphics having shipped in over 20 million phones so far.

Imagination Technologies will demonstrate why its PowerVR technology is the de facto standard for mobile graphics by showing leading phones powered by Symbian OS™ with 2D and 3D graphics accelerated by Imagination’s graphics cores. Alongside demonstrations of console class gaming, Imagination will be showing other high performance graphical applications, such as 3D UIs and navigation. By delivering these capabilities, Imagination Technologies is enabling major new market growth opportunities for content and middleware developers in the mobile space.

Hardware on display will include a Texas Instruments OMAP2420 development board running Symbian OS and the latest OMAP2420 enabled handsets from leading manufacturers.

PowerVR MBX is a unique graphics acceleration technology that delivers console-level 3D graphics on mobile phones and embedded devices via full support for leading APIs including OpenGL ES, OpenVG and Direct3D Mobile. It is supported on a wide range of operating systems including Symbian OS.

“”;TI’s OMAP™ family of application processors is the industry’s most popular platform for mobile phone manufacturers deploying comprehensive and advanced multimedia technologies into volume markets globally. As a result of our close partnership with Imagination Technologies for integration and support of the PowerVR MBX, TI is delivering leading embedded graphics performance today on the OMAP 2 platform,””; said.Markus Tremmel, worldwide manager of Cellular Systems Ecosystem at Texas Instruments.

“”;The combination of PowerVR MBX graphics acceleration and TI’s market leading application processor designs is enabling the new generation of Symbian smartphones to run advanced graphical gaming content, applications and user interfaces,””; says Tony King-Smith, VP Marketing, Imagination Technologies. “”;We are delighted to bring the latest developments in this fast moving market space to the Symbian Smartphone Show.””;
