Imagination Technologies, a leader in system-on-chip intellectual property (SoC IP), will be demonstrating advanced technology for mobile 3D graphics on the company’s stand at the 3GSM World Congress 2006 in Barcelona, Spain from 13-16 February 2006.

This technology enables console-class 3D gaming, advanced user interfaces and 3D messaging, as well as on-line promotion and marketing.

Imagination Technologies groundbreaking graphics technology, PowerVR, has a highly efficient and low-bandwidth architecture, which brings console-class gaming to the mobile world. PowerVR has been eagerly adopted by leading mobile device manufacturers and service providers including SONY Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Motorola, SK Teletech, NTT DoCoMo (FOMA) and Dell.

Demonstrations at 3GSM World Congress 2006 will include prototype silicon of Imaginations’ new shader-based graphics and video architecture, PowerVR SGX.

A range of PowerVR enabled content will be on show at 3GSM from Imagination Technologies’ partners, including: Acrodea, Aspyr Media, Esmertec, Fathammer, Futuremark, HI Corporation, Lagardere Active, Pulse Interactive, SKTelecom, Superscape, TAT and The Code Monkeys.

Imagination Technologies, one of the world’s top ten IP companies (source: Gartner), provides PowerVR IP to partners including Centrality Communications, Freescale, Intel, Philips, Renesas, Samsung, Sunplus and Texas Instruments.

Says David McBrien, VP business development, Imagination Technologies: “”;PowerVR MBX is a significant step forward for mobile graphics and has been adopted in a wide range of significant next generation mobile application processors. Indeed, PowerVR is the de facto standard today for advanced mobile graphics and we expect PowerVR SGX to be equally successful for future mobile devices.””;

PowerVR MBX, which exceeds OpenGL ES 1.X requirements, delivers massive triangle and fill rates along with full 3D features such as skinning, FSAA, curved surfaces, per-pixel lighting and texture compression. This performance has been validated via the independent 3DMARK MOBILE06 benchmark, with results officially certified by Futuremark.

PowerVR SGX, the new generation PowerVR shader based graphics and video technology family, is part of the PowerVR Series5 scalable and fully programmable shader graphics and video core family. With state-of-the-art support for 2D and 3D PowerVR SGX has an industry-leading feature set that exceeds OGL 2.0 shader and Microsoft Vertex and Pixel Shader Model 3 requirements.
