LONDON, UK, 7th July, 2014 — Imagination Technologies announces it is sponsoring a STEM research ‘chair’ as part of the government’s STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) initiative, which will recruit post-doctoral maths and physics researchers to teach in schools from September 2014.
The researchers will inject significant subject expertise into the schools they work with and help fuel the pipeline of 16-18 year olds progressing in maths and science to university and employment in the technology sector.
Says Sir Hossein Yassaie, CEO, Imagination: “This investment in the UK’s young people will not only help to boost our economy in the medium term, it will also expand Imagination’s engagement with top researchers in maths and physics. STEM education must be a priority for the UK if we are to continue to compete in technology on the world stage. The UK has many excellent companies, who are working with world-leading technology brands and rely on STEM skills. For this to continue and grow we need more commitment from both business and government to engaging young people in the excitement of creating new technology through engineering.”
Following training, the first researchers are expected in state schools in Autumn 2015.
