Metagence Reveals Concepts Behind Multi-threaded Processor at MPF 2003

London, UK: Metagence – a division of Imagination Technologies – announces that David Knox (VP Software) will present a paper at the 16th Annual Microprocessor Forum (MPF 2003) in San Jose, USA (October 13th through 16th).

The paper ‘Practical Benefits of Multi-threaded RISC/DSP Processing’, will be part of ‘Session 3: High Performance Processors’ and covers the advantages of a common processor architecture for both RISC and DSP instructions, in combination with hardware multi-threading, which allows complex systems to be built around a single processor core where previously two or more different processors would have been used together.

As well as multi-threading – where the processor maintains a number of separate hardware execution ‘threads’ – the paper explores the benefits of super-threading, a feature found in Metagence’s META processor core, where instructions which do not conflict in their resource requirements can execute simultaneously. Also investigated is Automatic MIPS Allocation (AMA), which dynamically adjusts thread priorities to give each thread a controlled proportion of the CPU capacity.

MPF 2003 is the premier venue to feel the pulse of the industry and meet the key players in: server processors, PC processors, networking processors, high-performance embedded, or innovative “”;extreme””; processors.
